Our Fees

Our goal is to understand your legal requirements and provide you with practical and cost-effective services in a timely fashion at a reasonable cost.

You can find some of the most common questions about our billing policy below. If anything is unclear, please do not hesitate to discuss this matter with the responsible lawyer before or at any time during our engagement.

Fees

Whenever possible, we will advise you of the estimated cost of your work before you retain us and will not exceed the estimated fees without your approval.

Our fees are generally based on the actual time to be spent on your behalf. All lawyers and legal assistants' time will be charged except for that of a trivial nature. We also take into consideration the complexity of a matter, the responsibility required by the matter, the urgency of the matter and the results achieved on your behalf.

Disbursements

All disbursements will be charged to the client. Disbursements will be listed on our statements of account. Disbursements exceeding $100.00 are to be paid by the client in advance. Disbursements of a lesser amount may be paid by Hwang & Company, and charged to the client.

Goods & Services Tax and Provincial Sales Tax

GST and PST are added on all fees and applicable disbursements as required by government guidelines.

Retainers

Retainers are normally required to cover the estimated cost of disbursements, G.S.T. and P.S.T. On matters which are estimated to cost $2,000.00 or more, an additional retainer of 25% of the estimated fee for the matter is required. Retainers will be deposited to our trust account as a credit against the services to be performed on your behalf.
